Some of the most insightful and significant
"AH-HA!" moments come from spontaneous discussion and free exchange of ideas.
Though I have a comprehensive curriculum, a huge advantage of having small
classes is that we can tailor the lessons to meet the needs of the group.
You will find a typical class sitting around my dining room table
exchanging ideas, playing a game, using Judaic values: all while learning
to read Hebrew. We learn meanings of Prayer, not rote memorization. We talk
about how customs and values were developed and what they mean to the student
and their family. We exchange ideas...we encourage each other to THINK!
You may find us in my kitchen cooking or baking. The kids LOVE to cook
and we try to do it often. We have made mondel bread, challah (a very popular
lesson!), chocolate covered matzah, latkes, hammentashen and other recipes. Kids
really enjoy our arts and crafts and have made Mezzuzahs, Miriam's cups,
painted Hebrew T-shirts, Hebrew name plates, Tzedakah boxes, Purim masks and
quite few other projects.
Did you say "EXTRA'S"? (not money, but
opportunity)
How about a "Ask The Rabbi ANYTHING You Want About Judaism"
night? ...A parent~student cookbook... Shabbos dinner at Joanne's.... Passover
dessert party... family cookout...possible field trips? Do you have any
ideas?
